When most people think of
PepsiCo, they picture snacks and sodas—not the farmers that make it all happen. In 2025, the global food and beverage company is making serious moves to support regenerative agriculture and invest in the long-term sustainability of farming. And that’s something worth paying attention to—especially if you’re a grower who’s focused on regenerative practices like building better soil, reducing synthetic inputs, and leaving the land stronger for the next generation.
Regenerating Millions of Acres
PepsiCo has committed to helping shift 7 million acres of farmland to regenerative practices by 2030—and they’re already halfway there. As of 2023, 3.5 million acres were being farmed using methods like cover cropping, reduced tillage, improved water efficiency, and biological inputs.
Their definition of regenerative agriculture includes practices that rebuild soil, improve biodiversity, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These are the same principles many independent farmers are already working toward—and it’s encouraging to see large companies backing those efforts with funding and scale.
Partnering Directly with Farmers
Instead of just setting top-down policies, PepsiCo is investing in on-the-ground partnerships with growers and farm organizations. In the U.S., they’ve teamed up with:
- Walmart, to support over 2 million acres in the U.S. and Canada, helping farmers adopt climate-smart practices and reduce carbon emissions.
- Practical Farmers of Iowa and the Soil and Water Outcomes Fund, with a goal of reaching 3 million more acres.
Internationally, PepsiCo is also working with farmers in Thailand, India, and Mexico, adapting regenerative practices to different climates and crops. The approach is simple: listen to farmers, share resources, and help them make changes that benefit both their soil and their bottom line.
Supporting Women and Smallholder Farmers
PepsiCo’s work goes beyond acreage and emissions. They’re putting real investment into people—especially smallholder farmers and women in agriculture.
One of their flagship programs, She Feeds the World, created in partnership with CARE, has reached nearly 2 million women across seven countries. These women receive training in sustainable farming, financial literacy, and leadership, helping strengthen not only their farms but their communities.
In Southeast Mexico, their Agrovita program is helping 35,000 people access training and markets. It even led to the creation of a rural co-op that now supplies PepsiCo directly.
Cutting Down on Inputs and Protecting Resources
PepsiCo is also focused on reducing chemical use through Integrated Pest Management (IPM), promoting non-chemical alternatives whenever possible. They require their suppliers to follow Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and regularly test for chemical residues.
Water use is another major focus. They’ve already improved agricultural water-use efficiency by 22% since 2015, exceeding their goal. Their long-term plan includes watershed health and helping farmers grow more with less.
A Model for Scaling Regenerative Ag
What makes PepsiCo’s approach stand out is their effort to bring regenerative farming to scale without losing touch with the farmer. They’re investing in tools and platforms to make it easier for growers to access information, track progress, and adapt to changing conditions—like their open-access Climate Resilience Platform and field-proven tools like Cool Farm Tool and iCrop.
Why This Matters to You
Even though they’re a huge company, the way PepsiCo is working—through hands-on partnerships, on-farm testing, and community-based programs—shows they understand that real change happens at the ground level. And if more companies follow their lead, it could mean more support, funding, and momentum for farmers focused on soil regeneration and long-term sustainability.
